Actually, I've gone in the reverse direction. I appreciate and feel more of a connection to him. It's probably due to my early background in the Baptist Church. But I can't get all warm and fuzzy about Jesus like other people can. That's probably the Borg's influence. But I won't use the name Jehovah anymore, just God. During my last few years as a dub, it started bothering me like I was talking about someone else, not God.

Has being a Witness made it hard for you to love Jesus?
by jwfacts inwhenever i hear the word jehovah i still feel warm and fuzzy.
he was the god that i spent hours talking to in prayer, petitioning, thanking, pleading with.
he was my father, the creator, the one who we would worship for eternity.. jesus on the other hand i never spoke or prayed to.

Also, are witnesses now allowed to donate to charities? I know we were never supposed to go to the Salvation Army, or donate to Goodwill. At least not in our cong.
No, it's not allowed. Donations are only to be made to the WBTS.

i'm an elder and have stated as much on this board.

Thanks Rat and BFD! I understand that Rat wants to keep a low profile, can't blame him if the stakes are high.
This hoopla sounds like something my Mom lives for. She falls for it every time. Maybe they've revived some
oldnew threats about how you have to trust the Bible, the NWT Bible that is. For now, it sounds like the same old, same old with a lot of hype. -

When we first started I was 10. We were a family of four. Our bible study conductors were a young pioneer couple with no children. (Who thought up that match?). Anyway, the husband got me in trouble with my father by "counseling me" during our family study, that I was doodling on my Watchtowers and I should be paying attention and commenting. Man did I get spanked and screamed at after those two left. So from that day on, I got watched and poked during the Watchtower by my father until I answered. My father was a scary guy, so I did what I was told.

Interesting developments with my wife.
by Paralipomenon init has been quite a while since i've provided an update but recently things have been odd.
there have been alot little things i've picked up on that leads me to believe my wife is really struggling with the concept of remaining a witness.
i provide gentle coaxing here and there.

This looks very, very good. In time, she will get the courage to prepare herself for whatever repercussions she may get from her headstrong parents. She's lucky to have you and your family for support.

JW's celebrating the largest national birthday of all -- you heard me!
by Fatfreek inmy non-jw son just called from another state.
i asked him if he's attending any fireworks display tomorrow in observance of our nation's birthday.
he laughed, knowing that i was digging the lack of birthday celebrations amongst jw's.

At last night's meeting I overheard a number of people talking about where to go see fireworks. Is the rule for this particular holiday that 'so long as there are no flags or remembering of the history of America' involved, than everything else is ok?
Finding a 4th of July fireworks display without flags and patriotism is impossible. They must be justifing it somehow. I'd love to hear their explanation.
